Updating Trenton’s Comprehensive Plan

Our comprehensive plan is the official document that articulates our community’s vision for its future physical, social, and economic character. It identifies key issues and opportunities, sets long-term goals, and outlines strategies to achieve those goals. It will equip us to proactively address the defining challenges of our time—from the statewide housing crisis and the impacts of climate change to the regulation of new industries—issues that were not contemplated in the 2006 plan but are now central to securing a resilient and prosperous future for our community.

An updated, state-consistent comprehensive plan is vital to Trenton’s future prosperity, legal standing, and community well-being. Beyond this legal imperative, a modern plan will unlock vital opportunities for Trenton, making the town eligible for a range of state grants for infrastructure, community development, and conservation.

The updating process is expected to take 20 to 24 months to complete. It will be community-driven and rely heavily on public input, visioning, and data collection to reflect local values and priorities. You can expect to hear a lot more about this and find opportunities to participate as we go through the process.

As we map out Trenton’s future, now is the perfect moment to ask ourselves: What makes our town special today, and what do we need to improve for tomorrow?
